When will I get my photos?
A.You will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within about two weeks. You can download all the photos from the gallery, and from that point you're able to print and share as you wish.
What should we wear?
A.What you wear for your session is so important! You'll always be grateful later if you take some time to thoughtfully choose outfits that coordinate. Styling is so important that I have a separate page with some helpful information for you. Check it out using the link at the top of this page, or in the page menu under the FAQ heading.
How do newborn sessions work?
A.I LOVE shooting newborn sessions. What a wild and magical time in a family's life! When you decide you'd like to book a newborn session, it's important to contact me while you're still expecting the baby if possible, so we can make sure to talk and get you on the schedule, and then be sure to contact me as soon as you can after the baby is born. Just shoot me a quick text, or ask a family member to! It's best to shoot the newborn session within the first two weeks so we can catch that sweet easily snoozing baby if we can! If that timeline is not possible, that's okay. We may not get sleeping shots, but we will still capture beautiful images of your new baby.
I'll come to your home and we'll get some shots of just the baby, some of you together, and if you're interested in sibling/family/partner shots as well, we can get those. Look up Lifestyle Newborn session on Pinterest to see the casual laid-back style we can go for. We can do a few posed shots of baby all bundled in a basket, but we want to get many more natural photos of you holding the baby, close-ups of features, and the baby lying on a bed or blanket - showing what life at home looks like.
If you'd prefer to not shoot at your home, I have access to a really awesome studio space. We can discuss this in more detail if you're interested.
When you book a newborn session, I'll send you some more info about how to prepare more for the session. You don't need to do much, and it's a laid-back and relaxed time. It does takes longer than other sessions because babies need to eat, be changed and soothed, and sometimes we need to help or wait for them fall asleep. These sessions usually take around two hours.
What is a Fresh 48?
A.A Fresh 48 is a really magical kind of session. It takes place at the setting where the baby was born (hospital, birthing center, etc) within the first 48 hours of a newborn's life. As a mom myself, I am totally aware of how exhausting and overwhelming this time is, so I don't expect anything of you during this moment except to just allow me to document it. I will join you for a brief time to document your baby's little feet, eyelashes, and nose, and get a few shots in that famous striped hospital blanket and bassinet before you head home. Believe me, you will forever cherish that photo with your little one all bundled up with their tiny name card in the background of the hospital room bassinet. In later years, it will bring you right back to that moment. The important thing is to just contact me as soon as possible after baby's birth (or even have your partner shoot me a quick text as soon as you know the baby is on the way!) so I can be on alert to know I'll need to be in contact and be ready to head over after things settle down and you've had some rest. I'll be honored to witness a little slice of your first day or two with your fresh new babe.
Where do you recommend I get my photos printed?
A.I highly recommend MPix.com. They're a super high quality print shop, and you'll absolutely be pleased with your prints. I've also really been impressed with Persnickety Prints.
MPix isn't terribly expensive, but if you want an option for a smaller budget, I'd recommend Shutterfly rather than Walgreens or other drugstores. Also, if you are given the option at a printing website for them to "auto-enhance," "edit," or change your photos in anyway, definitely turn off that feature. I have very carefully edited your photo, including the contrast, all of the coloring, the sharpness, and every detail, and the print shops will change all of those things (not for the better!) :)
How should I pay?
A.I am happy to receive payment via cash, check, Venmo, Paypal, or Zelle. Whatever is most convenient for you is great.
What if it rains?
A.If it's pouring rain, you probably won't be very comfortable, and your kids won't be thrilled either. I've found it's best to keep a close watch on the forecast and keep in contact leading up to a session. If the likelihood of rain is pretty high, it's often best to reschedule. I know it's often a little sprinkly around here, and we can work with that, but we want the best conditions possible. Trust me - it'll be worth it!
